How to integrate Wemo and Cortana

If you havent setup the Wemo, do these step first –

1. Download Wemo app on your smartphone
2. Run Wemo App
3. Tap on Get Started bar in Wemo app
4. Tap on WeMo SmartPlugs button
5. Plug in WeMo smart outlet into wall outlet
6. Change Smartphone to Wemo SSID (something like Wmo.Mini.C44)
7. Restart WeMo app
8. It should discover your Smart outlet shortly
9. Tap on Next to continue
10. Enter email address (this will be used for advising of updates, recalls, etc)
11. Tap on Next button to continue
12. Wemo app will restart and discover nearby netowrk (it only sees 2.4 Ghz SSID’s)
13. Tap on the SSID you want it to use
14. Enter password/passphrase for SSID
15. Tap on Save
16. Info will be saved to Wemo Device
17. App will restart and you should now have control of the Wemo Smart Plug

Cycle the device several times and enter and exit the app to make sure that all is working as expected. When prompted for a firmware upgrade, to it now to get your device on the latest firmware.

To get Wemo talking to Cortana, do these steps –
This first section assumes that Cortana isnt linked to IFTTT. If it is, you can go to the next section

1. Go to https://ifttt.com/cortana
2. Login to IFTTT
3. Click on Connect to link Cortana to IFTTT
4. Enter your Microsoft account credentials associated with Cortana
5. When you are returned to IFTTT, you are now linked to Cortana

Follow these step to enable voice control of the Wemo with Cortana

1. Click on search on the IFTTT smartphone app
2. Tap on Search icon
3. Type wemo
4. Tap on Services
5. Tap on Wemo Smart Plug
6. Tap on Connect
7. Switch to Wemo app
8. Tap on More
9. Tap on Connect to IFTTT
10. IFTTT pin should be generated momentarily
11. Tap on Connect button
12. You will taken to IFTTT screen
13. Enter IFTTT credentials
14. Tap on Sign In button
15. Switch back to IFTTT app
16. Tap on My Applets button
17. Tap on Plus symbol in upper right hand corner of the screen
18. Tap on Plus sign beside This
19. Search for Cortana
20. Tap on Cortana
21. Tap on Say a specific Phrase
22. Tap on What do you want to say
23. Type Wemo On
24. Tap on Create Trigger
25. Tap on What do you want Cortana to Say line
26. Type Turning Wemo on
27. Tap on Create Trigger
28. Tap on plus sign beside that
29. Type Wemo
30. Tap Wemo Smart Plug
31. Tap on Turn on
32. Tap on drop down under which switch and select Wemo plug you configured
33. Tap on Create Action
34. Turn on Notifications
35. Tap on Finish

Repeat steps 15 through 35 to create a turn off trigger for the Wemo outlet

Go into Cortana app or use your Harmon Kardon Invoke to test

You can now ask Google to turn the device on or off by the name you configured it with in the Wemo app.
