How to setup your SmartHome with IFTTT & StreamDeck

Here is what will be needed to get this to work –
1. StreamDeck or StreamDeck Mini
2. StreamDeck software client for the OS you are running on
3. A PC running Windows 10 or a Mac laptop, desktop or mini
4. IFTTT

Here is what you will need to do or use on IFTTT –
1. Connect IFTTT to the product you want to use StreamDeck with
2. Use Webhooks IFTTT service to do the heavy lifting
3. Use https://ifttt.com/maker_webhooks to test the link for StreamDeck

Basic steps
1. Create a new applet using the Webhooks service
2. Give it a short name without using special characters such as #, !, etc
3. Test the applet using the https://ifttt.com/maker_webhooks documentation button. If it works there, then you shouldn’t have a problem with getting it to work with StreamDeck
4. Use the Website action in the StreamDeck client and paste the https: link from the maker_webhoos documentation button into the URL field

Notes:
1. StreamDeck software must be running for StreamDeck hardware to work
2. This is a secure connection because Webhooks service uses https: links
3. Depending on the product you are controlling with this configuration, there may be a delay of several seconds before the command works its way through to the device
4. Collect icons that uniquely identify the devices/products being controller
5. You can copy the profiles used for StreamDeck on one computer to another by using the Export/Import functions within the StreamDeck software

How to organize devices being controlled –
1. I usually setup a separate profile by room or by product manufactuer
a. If organizing by rooms, I use two letter abbreviations for rooms
b. LR – Living Room,
c. KT – Kitchen
d. etc
2. I do a quick search of the web for icons that easily identify product manufacturer
