How to Setup TP-Link HS100 Smart Plug

1. Download TP-Link Kasa app to your smartphone/tablet
2. Open Kasa App
3. Tap on Create Account (Lower left hand corner of screen)
4. Enter username and password
5. Select the location for where you are

6. Store the username/password for Kasa/TP-Link in your password manager
7. Tap on Create Account
8. Review terms of service and tap on Create Account (again)
9. Check your email for the activation email to confirm your account
10. Open email and click on Click To Finish Registration
11. A web browser should open shortly confirming your email
12. Switch back to the Kasa app and click on continue
13. When the set location screen appears, tap on the Allow button
14. Tap on the Allow button again to confirm your choice
15. You should know be at the devices screen
16. Tap on the plus sign in the upper right hand corner
17. Select Smart Plug from the Add Device screen
18. Plug the Smart Plug into the wall
19. The Wifi light should turn solid amber
20. Tap on the Next button
21. The Wifi light blinks and alternates between amber and green (note: if you are color blind, you may only see a pulsing in the Wifi Symbol)
22. Tap on Next
23. When it finds your Smart Plug, you will be take to the Device Name Screen
24. Enter the name you want the Smart Plug known by
25. Tap on Next
26. When you see the Customize Icon screen, you can change the icon for your Smart Plug if you choose
27. Tap on Next
28. Tap on Use Different Network
29. Tap on the SSID you want to use
30. Enter password/passphrase for the SSID
31. Tap on Next
32. Once the HS100 has been configured, you may be given a screen about a firmware update. Apply the update now before you start using the device.
33. Tap on Update Now
34. During the update process, you may hear the relay in the HS100 click once or twice
35. Once the HS100 is finished applying the update, click on the Done button
36. Click on Done again

You may see a message about needing to enable remote access in order to manage the device when away from home. In the version of software I setup the HS100, it automatically enabled the remote access option. This brings up an interesting option. If you have a device that you only want to be able to control locally, you can disable remote access so that you have to be local to the device in order to control it.
