1. Install Linux
2. Open up terminal window
3. Install Pi-Hole
a. curl -sSL https://install.pi-hole.net | bash
b. When Pi-Hole installer screen appears, press Enter to continue
c. Press Enter on Donate screen
d. Press Enter on Static IP screen
i. While Pi-Hole prefers a static ip, you can also use a static reservation on your router until you are comforable with assigning a static IP in Linux
e. Accept the default of Google as the default DNS provider for Pi-Hole
f. Press Tab to highlight the enter key
g. Press Enter to continue
h. When the 3rd party lists file appears, press Tab key and press enter
i. When Protocols screen appears, press Tab key and press enter
j. When the static IP screen appears,
i. Write down the ip address
ii. Look up this address in router router and reserve or exclude that ip address from being used
k. When the IP address conflict screen appears, press Enter to continue
l. When the IPv6 screen appears, press Enter to continue
m. Accept the default of installing the web interface
n. Press Tab and press Enter to continue
o. When the web server option screen appears, press tab and press Enter to continue
p. When the log queries screen appears, press tab and press Enter to continue
q. When privacy screen appears, press tab and press Enter to continue
r. When the installation complete screen appears, note the admin web page login password and write it down i.e. 796AN7ME
i. You can change the password at a later time by going using the terminal window cmd pinhole -a -p
s. Verify you can login to pi-hole
t. http://IP_ADDPRESS_OF_YOUR_PI_HOLE/admin/
4. The ip address of pin hole should be display again on the installation complete screen and in the terminal window screen
5. When the Pi-hole page appears,
a. Click on the Login option
b. Enter the password displayed at the end of the installation process
c. Click on Login button
6. Change the ip address of the DNS server in your router and reboot the workstation to get started. Another option is to manually override the dns ip in your workstation when first getting started
