How to get more HDMI inputs in your SmartHome

Here are several options

1. Get a hardware HDMI switch
a. Hopefully with a remote control
b. Probably the least expensive option until you decide what will be the best solution long term
2. Get a new TV with more HDMI inputs
a. Pricey solution but if you TV is more than 7 years ago, it might be time
b. Audio from HDMI devices has to “pass through” TV to get to AV or Stereo Receiver
c. With the constant evolution of streaming media options, I have a tendency to look at the TV like a component in a stereo system. I want it to be the best it can be without any added bells and whistles.
d. The problem I see with a built in streaming receiver is that if/when the manufacturer of the TV or streaming receiver stops support the TV’streaming receiver, you are pretty much up a creek without a paddle
3. AV Receiver
a. Ideally should support alexa or other voice control options
b. Should have minimum of 4 HDMI inputs
c. Audio from HDMI devices is handled by AV receiver with only video going on to TV
d. With AV receiver serving as a traffic copy for HDMI devices, makes the process easier to change out TV’s.
e. Options here are Denon and Yamaha
f. Look for optical inputs to get absolute best audio from streaming device or TV
4. Caavo
a. Next generation “intelligent” HDMI switcher
b. Supports up to 8 HDMi devices
c. “learns” what services/programming is available on a device
d. Supports voice commands with Alexa or Caavo remote
e. $499 (has been seen for $199 on special promotion)
f. Released in 2017, continually being upgraded
g. Available at www.caavo.com
h. Depending on the device, Caavo can be the entertainment assistant or remote control
