How to get Home Assistant working with MyCroft

In this video, I walk you through getting MyCroft, an open source voice assistant, working with Home Assistant, an open source smart home console. All that is required is a minor change to both systems and you are up and running.

Suggestions:
Assign a static ip address to both MyCroft and Home Assistant
Uses a DHCP reservation may be an easier way to do this

Home Assistant:

Add this to your configuration.yaml file –

mycroft:
host: 0.0.0.0 (change this to the ip address of your MyCroft device)

Reboot Home Assistant

MyCroft:

Add this skill
Wait several minutes for the skill to be added and activated before using it

Note:
If you have skills such as LiFX or similar active on MyCroft, you will want to deactivate or uninstall them before linking your MyCroft to Home Assistant

Both of these are required in order for things to work

To turn a device such as a LiFX bulb, you can say “MyCroft, turn on chair light”
To turn off the device you can say “MyCroft, turn off chair light”
